A Family Tradition on the Waterfront
King Harbor Marine Center has been a family-run business serving the South Bay boating community for nearly 70 years.
The business was founded by Abram “Abe” Tavera, who operated the boatyard for many years before bringing his son, Steve Tavera, into the family business. Steve began working alongside his father at just 18 years old, learning the business from the ground up and developing the experience, dedication, and personal relationships that would become an important part of King Harbor Marine Center.
Steve went on to carry on his father’s legacy and dedicated much of his life to the boatyard and the customers he served. Sadly, Steve passed away on April 14, 2026.
Today, the family tradition continues with Steve’s daughter, Stephanie Tavera, who worked alongside her father for seven years before taking over the operation of King Harbor Marine Center.
As the third generation of the Tavera family to operate the business, Stephanie is committed to preserving the values established by her grandfather and carried forward by her father.
